• TDS unveils multi-gig residential speeds up to 8 Gig now available for the first time in Stoughton

TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) announced it is offering up to 8 Gig symmetrical internet—now the fastest available consumer internet service in Dane County. The Madison-headquartered company marked the milestone at a ribbon-cutting event on its upgraded fiber network on Friday, November 15.

County Executive Melissa Agard, Stoughton Mayor Tim Swadley, State Sen. Elect Melissa Ratcliff, State Rep. Elect Joan Fitzgerald, Stoughton Fire Chief Joshual Ripp, Stoughton Fire Captain and President of the Firefighter Association Paul Updike, and the local chamber joined company officials at the event.

“We’re incredibly proud and excited to launch up to 8 Gig internet,” said Vice President of Sales Michele Slattery.  “We upgraded our existing fiber network to offer multi-gig connections without any major construction—proving that fiber technology truly is future proof and can deliver the faster products and services people and businesses are looking for.”

TDS announced its fiber network expansion build plans for Stoughton in March of 2020, finishing the network the following year. TDS previously offered a maximum symmetrical internet of up to 1 Gig prior to the upgrade project that now adds range of multi-gig options up to 8 Gig in the community.

Mayor Swadley was in office when TDS first announced its expansion to Stoughton and was supportive of the project. Today, he continues to recognize the importance of reliable high-speed data connections.

“When I became mayor, I recognized that one of the things we needed to do is have the infrastructure in place to support growth and certainly having fiber optics was huge to get us moving in the right direction,” said Mayor Swadley.

At the ribbon cutting, TDS also presented a $1,000 donation to support the Stoughton Firefighters Association. The funds will be used to support equipment and training for their Swift Water Rescue effort.???

“With the Yahara River and three dams in the area used for recreational paddling, we want the ability to take on larger rescue efforts without having to rely on neighboring fire departments,” explained Captain Updike. “Donations like this help with our ongoing efforts to purchase more equipment and training for our Swift Water Rescue program.”

TDS’ new, faster speeds are available immediately to most addresses in its existing fiber footprint in Stoughton, with the remaining gaining access shortly. The company, headquartered in Madison, will continue to offer a full range of internet options which now includes up to 8 Gig upload and download speeds, TDS’ full-featured TV product called TDS TV+, and phone service. Commercial customers can also choose multi-gig speeds and up to 10 Gig with a service level agreement. The company also recently announced its intention to add a mobile phone service to their product mix soon.

TDS has served customers in Wisconsin for over 55 years and has become a national leader in fiber-optic construction. Residents interested in learning more about TDS services can visit tds.com
